TechNote 3400-WIN
3000 Series ANSI Windows Operation

Overview:

There is no specific ANSI Windows driver for the 3000 series. The 3460 drivers may be used, with some limitations. The 3460 drivers can be found at:

ANSI-drv.htm.

Emulation:

The printer emulation
must be set to ANSI X3.64 to use the 3460 driver.
 Differences:

Most, but not all, differences between the 3000 series and the 3460 operation under Windows are listed below.
 Color:
The 3460 driver should support the color option, but only with the process ribbon (yellow, magenta, cyan, black) and the red/black ribbon. The primary ribbon (red, green, blue, black) is not supported. The proper ribbon type must be selected when installing the driver, and the ribbon type must be set from the printer control panel.
 Graphics:
  • The 3000 series and the 3460 both support graphics densities of 72 x 72 and 144 x 72.
 Resident Font Selections:
  • Font names differ between the 3000 series and the 3460.
  • Not all CPI settings are available for each 3405 / 3410X font.
  • The following table indicates the font equivalents for the 3460 driver fonts and the 3000 series fonts.
  3460 Font 3000 Font  CPI
  GothicDP DP 10, 12
  GothicLQ Compressed DP 15, 17.1
  CourierDP LQ 10, 12
  CourierLQ Compressed LQ 15, 17.1
  GItalicDP Optional font
  GItalicLQ Optional font
  CItalicDP Optional font
Thus, to select the GothicDP font in 15 CPI, select the GothicLQ 15 CPI font in the font box.
 Oversize fonts:
  • The oversize font is standard on the 3410XBQ, and optional on the 3405 and 3000 series.
  • Oversize fonts will not print the same size on the 3000 series and 3460. The base font on the 3410 is 12 CPI, while the base font on the 3460 is 10 CPI. Oversize characters will not print in the exact location displayed on the screen.
 Bar Codes:
  • Bar code fonts are standard on the 3410XBQ, and optional on the earlier models.
  • The 3000 series does not calculate check digits. The application MUST supply any desired check digits.
  • Bar codes may not print in the exact location displayed on the screen.
  • Selecting an unsupported bar code type will select Code 3 of 9.
Only the following bar codes are available on the 3000 series:
  Interleaved 2 of 5
Code 3 of 9
EAN-8
EAN-13
Code 11
Codeabar a/t
Codeabar b/n
Codeabar c/*
Codeabar d/e
UPC-A
UPC-E
Code 93
Code 128
Paper Paths
  • Rear, front, and manual path selections will be ignored. The Automatic Sheet Feeder (ASF) bin selections should function correctly, but paper must be manually removed from the tractor path.
