TechNote LW-WIN
LineWriter Series Windows Operation

Limitations:

  • The LineWriter may not be able to properly print all documents within an application.
  • Since the LW prints in a 10 CPI fixed width pitch, old documents must be reformatted to print properly.
  • There is no graphics capability.
  • The POSTNET print band is not supported.

Windows 3.1 -install and setup the driver:

  • Open Control Panel, then Printers.
  • Click on Install, then on Generic/Text Only.
  • Insert the Windows disk, then click on OK.
  • Click on Setup.
  • Click on Modify.
  • Click on Wide Carriage.
  • Set Paper Size to Letter for 11" form length, Legal for 14" form length.
  • Leave Paper Feed set to Continuous.
  • Click on OK.

Windows 95/98/NT - install and setup the driver:

  • Select Start - Settings - Printers.
  • Select Add Printer - Next.
  • Select Local or Network printer - Next.
  • Set the manufacturer to Generic, set printer to Generic/Text Only - Next.
  • Select the port the printer is connected to - Next.
  • Enter the Printer Name (LineWriter) - Select As Default Yes/No - Next.
  • Select Print Test Page>Yes - Finish - the test page should be generated.

Setup the application:

  • Enter the Printer Setup and select the driver.
  • Enter the Page Setup and set the page size.
  • Select the entire document and change the font to Roman 10 CPI- the LW prints in a fixed space font only.
  • View the document and check alignments- cell widths in spreadsheets and tables may need to be modified.
  • If the application has a Page Preview, use it to check text alignments before printing.

If the printer does not print properly under Windows, the driver is not at fault. Refer to TechNote WIN-01 for some tips on making your printer work. The LineWriter may require the NX-1 Handshake Adapter from PhotoLogic.
