7610 - Memory Upgrades

Summary: The 7160 uses standard 72 pin memory SIMM's, but not all memory may be compatible. After installing memory, test it with the printer's built in memory check.

Memory Specifications: 72 pin, no parity, 70 nanoseconds. 1 MB, 2 MB, 4 MB, and 8 MB SIMMs may be installed. A total of four SIMMs may be installed for a maximum of 34 MB of RAM. Parity SIMMs may be installed, but the parity bit is not used. EDO SIMMs may be used, but there will be no speed advantage.

Installation:

• Turn off the printer power.
• Open the top cover and remove the print cartridge.
• Locate the metal plate with one retaining screw on the inside right side of the printer.
• Loosen, but do not remove, the retaining screw and pull the metal plate upward. The rear of the plate is held in position by two tabs that fit into slots in the printer frame.
• Install the additional memory in the SIMM slots provided- SIMMs should be installed in the top slot first.
• Re-install the cover plate.

Memory Check: After installation, perform the memory test:

• Turn on the printer power and observe the display.
• During the power on self test, the installed memory size will be shown- ensure the added memory is shown.
• Turn off the printer power.
• Press and hold the UP arrow and turn the printer power on- the display will show HL-10H START.
• Release the UP arrow.
• Press the UP arrow until the display shows DRAM CHECK.
• Press the SET key- the display shows DRAM CHECK START.
• Press the SET key- the memory test will begin.
• When the memory test completes successfully, the display shows DRAM OK.
• Turn the printer power off.

• If the memory test fails, a memory address will display.
• Remove all SIMMs and perform the memory test- if a failure occurs with all SIMMs removed, the on-board memory has failed, and the printer requires service.
• If the on-board memory passes, re-install the SIMMs one at a time and perform the memory test- any failure will indicate a SIMM fault.
