TechNote 7600-04
7610 - Barcode Left Offset
20 Aug 1997 Ed Palmer

Summary: Barcodes using the printer resident barcode fonts cannot be printed less than 1.2 inches from the left edge of the paper.

Cause: By default, barcodes have a 1 inch Quiet Zone on each side of the bar code. Printing is not allowed in the Quiet Zone, effectively causing the barcode to be shifted. In addition, there is a .2 inch boarder on each edge of the page where printing cannot occur.

Solution: Use the Quiet Zone parameter "O" to set the size of the Quiet Zone. This command is not documented in the 7610 user's guide. Add the following description to the 7610 User's Manual, Appendix-68:

- Quiet Zone
n = "onnn" or "Onnn" (nnn = 0 ~ 32767)

Quiet Zone is the space on both sides of the bar codes. The width can be specified using the units which are set by the "u" or "U" parameter. (For the description of the the "u" or "U" parameter, see the next section.) The default setting of Quiet Zone width is 1 inch.
