7612 Series -
Jams with New Duplex
13 Jan 1998 Ed Palmer

Summary: A new duplex unit jams.

1

Cause: Wrong duplex model. Check the model number on the back of the duplex unit. The DX-1600 can be used with the 7612 or the mL17, the DX-1200 can be used only with the 7612.

Solution: Replace the duplexer with the correct model.

2

Cause: The printer's Rear Cover Assembly was removed when the duplexer was installed.

Solution: Replace the Rear Cover Assembly.

Note: The installation diagrams for the duplexer show the Rear Cover being opened to remove a shipping block. The Rear Cover should be closed after removing the block. The diagram can be wrongly interpreted to remove the rear cover.

3

Cause: The new feed roller that came with the duplexer was not installed in the printer.

Check: The proper feed roller is a ribbed black rubber roller. The original roller is smooth.

Solution: Install the proper roller per the instruction sheet that came with the duplexer.

Note: If the wrong roller is installed, the printer will jam when pulling from the duplex guide. The printer may work for a period of time, then start jamming.
