Introduction to the mL401+

Summary: The mL401 controller can be replaced with the mL450 controller.

Note: This also applies to the mL320 and LNM40.

Details: Newer Intelliprint models such as the mL450 use a S series controller as opposed to the D series controller used in the mL401. Refer to IP-SPEC-03 for controller details. The mL450 is backward compatible with the mL401.

• The mL401+ is a mL401 that has been field upgraded with the mL450 controller.
• GENICOM has never produced the mL401+ as a shipping product.
• The D controllers for the mL320 and mL401 are in limited stock and will be replaced by the mL450 controller when exhausted.

Compatibility:

• RAM is different- refer to IP-MEM-05.
• Flash is different- refer to IP-MEM-03.
• The hard drive is compatible. The mL401 disk may be removed from it's daughterboard and affixed directly to the mL450 controller with screws.
• The serial interface is compatible.
• The IBM twinax/coax interface is compatible- the printer must be flashed with the appropriate mL450 code.
• The Net32 network interface is compatible, however the mL450 has a Net32i integrated onto the controller.
• The controller bracket must be modified to accommodate the network connector.

Issues:

• Although the mL450 controller offers a faster processor, printer throughput is still limited to 32 or 40 PPM.
• The Product Version (firmware) shows as S1.50 regardless of the actual version (this should be fixed in the future).

• Controller, mL450 - 6A1326P01
• SDRAM, 64M - MLXXXM-64
• Controller bracket- modify the original bracket.
