Intelliprint Series- New Features
23 July 2004 Ed Palmer

Models: cL160, mL260, mL450, LN45

Summary: The Intelliprint series have been upgraded with a number of new features such as Job Accounting, Private Printing and Collation.

Code: All older versions of these printers can be upgraded to the current Product Version to gain these features by use of a simple flash procedure.

Features:

e-mail When the email server is enabled, printer messages can be directed to users. Messages include toner low, toner out, paper out, paper jam and cover open. Up to five addresses can be set.

Collation Storage option required. When this collating is enabled, multiple copies of the entire document (all pages e.g. 1-3, 1-3, 1-3) will be printed in sequential order rather than multiple copies of each individual page (111, 222, 333). Any finishing options such as staple or offset will be applied to each job set.

Job Accounting

Storage option required. When enabled, the printer stores information about each job, including job name, user name, the number of pages printed and the duration of the print job. Job Accounting data can be printed from the front panel, viewed through the printer web page or downloaded as a .CSV file and imported into a spreadsheet.

JobLibrary Storage option required. There are three JobLibrary modes:

  Normal: Jobs are printed normally.

Saved: Jobs are printed and stored on the storage option under the User Name and Job Name. The job can be reprinted from the front panel or from the printer web page.

Saved jobs can be used for proofing. Pprint one copy in Saved mode, if it passes proofing, reprint as many as desired without sending the job again. If the Job Name is set and left the same for every job, then every job will be saved but will overwrite the previous job- this gives the ability to reprint the last job. Saved jobs can also be used to store blank forms with unique job names and print them on the fly.

Private: Jobs are not printed, but are saved with a four digit PIN. Jobs can be printed from the front panel or printer web page by entering the PIN.

Private jobs provide a level of confidentiality for discrete printing.

Custom Page Sizes

The printer and the driver can be set to allow custom paper sizes from certain sources:

cL160:
MBF (Multipurpose Bypass Feeder): Width: 3.5 to 8.5 inches; Length: 5.5 to 35.43 inches

mL260:
Front Tray, Tray 1, Tray 2, Tray 3: Width: 3.00 to 8.50 inches; Length: 5.00 to 14.00 inches

mL450:
MBF (Multipurpose Bypass Feeder): Width: 4.13 to 11.69 inches; Length: 5.84 to 17.00 inches

Note: Some applications may be limited as to supported sizes. For example; Microsoft Word is limited to a form length of 22 inches.

Separator Page When enabled, a blank page is printed after each job from a designated paper source.

Auto Resize When enabled, jobs that do not match the installed paper will automatically print without an error. PostScript jobs will scale to fit the nearest paper size. PCL jobs will not scale, but will print on the nearest paper size.

Enabling: Collation and JobLibrary features can be enabled through the driver or with PJL commands. The use of PJL commands allows custom applications to be written to take adantage of these features.

Storage Options: Some features require a storage option such as the Hard Disk or User Flash. The User Flash is currently a 16MB DIMM, the Hard Drive is a 20GB or higher disk. The User Flash is a serial device- files larger than 4MB will drop in throughput and quickly bog down. The Hard Disk is recommended for these applications. If both the Hard Disk option and a User Flash option are installed, these features will default to the Hard Disk option.
