Print Cartridge Specifications for the mL and LN Series

Summary: The print cartridge is a single piece unit containing the OPC drum and toner. The toner is an monocomponent that does not use a separate developer. This allows for a lower fuser temperature, better adhesion and high resolution. The fuser does not require a cleaning wiper, thus no silicon oil is introduced into the printing system.

The mL450 and LN45 cartridge has an advanced toner chemistry that provides toner density and adhesion superior to previous models.

• MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition): Used to print checks.
• Toner Yield: Rated in images (sides), at 5% coverage on Letter/A4 paper, Toner Saver set to Off. Increasing toner coverage or page size will decrease yield. Setting Toner Saver will increase yield (but not past the Cartridge Life).
• Toner Low: Rated in images (sides). Point at which the Toner Low message appears on the printer display.
• Cartridge Life: Rated in images (sides). Physical life of the components of the cartridge, regardless of remaining toner. Past this point, the print quality will degrade rapidly.
• Toner Count Reset: The printer maintains the Toner Page Count. When the cartridge is replaced, the Toner Page Count is reset to properly track the yield. This process is automatic on some models, and manual (through the printer menu) on other models.

mL320, mL401, LNM40, mL450, LN45

• Toner Low: The printer will continue to print. The message will be shown on the printer display and can be monitored by GENICOM RCS.
• Toner Out: If Toner Out is set to Continue, the printer will continue to print even when the print cartridge is completely empty. If Toner Out is set to Stop, the printer will stop on toner out. This condition is shown on the printer display and can be monitored by GENICOM RCS.
• Toner Count: This cartridge is 'smart'. The toner page count is stored within the cartridge. A cartridge that is moved to another printer will continue to properly track it's page count (the count moves with the cartridge). A new cartridge will automatically start with a Toner Count of zero. The Toner Count can be monitored from the Summary Page (printed from the control panel), through the printer's web page (if connected via TCP/IP) or through GENICOM RCS.
• Toner Saver: Four levels of Toner Saver can be set: Off, Light, Lighter and Lightest. Enabling Toner Saver increases the toner yield while decreasing the toner density. The Cartridge Life limits the maximum yield available with Toner Saver.
• Print Density: Adjusts the laser power without affecting the toner yield.

  Note: Although mechanically similar, the print cartridges are different between the mL320, mL401 and LNM40 and the mL450 and LN45 and are not interchangeable.

• Toner Low: The printer will continue to print. The message will be shown on the printer display and can be monitored by GENICOM RCS.
• Toner Out: There is no toner out sensing. The printer will continue to print even when the print cartridge is completely empty. There is no function that will set the printer to stop printing when the print cartridge is low or empty.
• Toner Count: The toner page count is calculated and stored in the printer controller. When a new catridge is installed, the toner count should be reset through the menu (Menu >> System Menu >> Toner Reset). Failing to reset the toner count has no adverse effects, other than the inability to track toner yield. A cartridge that is moved to another printer will NOT properly track it's page count (the count stays with the printer). The Toner Count can be monitored from the Summary Page (printed from the control panel), through the printer's web page (if connected via TCP/IP) or through GENICOM RCS.
• Toner Saver: Four levels of Toner Saver can be set: Off, Light, Lighter and Lightest. Enabling Toner Saver increases the toner yield while decreasing the toner density. The Catridge Life limits the maximum yield available with Toner Saver.
• Print Density: Adjusts the laser power without affecting the toner yield.
