Summary: When the toner bottle is changed, the printer should be cleaned. When printing is light or uneven, or shows vertical white streaks vertical black lines, the printer requires cleaning.

Procedure:

While performing any of the following procedures, look for loose toner in the printer. Remove any toner deposits with a soft cloth or a Toner Vacuum.

If the following procedures do not help, replace the print unit and toner bottle.

When the toner bottle is changed, or when printing is uneven or shows vertical black lines, clean the Pre-Charger Wire.

• Remove the Print Unit.

  Ensure the Print Unit is placed on a soft surface. Scratching the green drum will cause print quality defects. Do not expose the Print Unit to light for more than three minutes.

• Locate the Cleaning Tool located inside the printer:

  

  Locate the longer arm marked with a P.
  If the Cleaning Tool is missing, a cotton swab may be substituted. The Cleaning Tool part number is 397300.
• Insert the P arm of the Cleaning Tool into the slot on the Print Unit:

  

• Pressing firmly, run the Cleaning Tool fully from side to side six times.
• Store the Cleaning Tool.
• Install the Print Unit.
• After printing several pages of text, the problem should be resolved.
• If the problem persists in a certain area, clean that specific part of the Pre-Charger Wire.

• Remove the Print Unit.

  Ensure the Print Unit is placed on a soft surface. Scratching the green drum will cause print quality defects. Do not expose the Print Unit to light for more than three minutes.

• Locate the Cleaning Tool located inside the printer:

  

  Locate the longer arm marked with a T.
  If the Cleaning Tool is missing, a cotton swab may be substituted.
• Insert the T arm of the Cleaning Tool into the slot on the Transfer Unit:

  

• Pressing firmly, run the Cleaning Tool fully from side to side six times.
• Store the Cleaning Tool.
• Install the Print Unit.
• After printing several pages of text, the problem should be resolved.
• If the problem persists in a certain area, clean that specific part of the Transfer Corona Wire.
