Models:
34XX, 35XX
Summary:
A new 34xx series printer displays "black boxes" in the
LCD display on power up.
Resolution:
Cause: The cable from the LCD Display to the main logic board is either
loose or not connected.
Solution: Disassemble rear of printer:
*** Turn power off and UNPLUG printer ***
1. Remove top tractors or rear tractor cover piece.
2. Lift off the curved ASF cover piece.
3. Remove (4) Phillips-head screws holding back cover in place;
(2) are visable when you pull off the curved ASF cover piece;
the others are located at lower front corners of the rear cover,
where the cover meets the printer frame.
4. Pull / lift off rear cover.
Once this is done, locate the main logic board, to the left (viewed from
the rear) side. Located near the far end (front) of this board, almost
centered, are two connectors that should both have cables plugged into
them. These cables may be both gray in color, or one may be blue. Both
will have magnetic suppression rings on them. Most likely, the far
forward cable will not be connected, or may be loose.
4. Unplug the rear cable from its connector, to gain access to the
forward connector.
5. Plug the loose cable into the forward connector, or reseat
the cable, if it is plugged in.
6. Replace the rear cable into its connector.
Reassemble the rear cover; curved ASF cover piece, and top tractor
assembly or rear tractor cover piece.
Turn printer on and check display.
