TechNote 3800-01
3800 Series - Setting CR on LF
09-30-97   Ed Palmer

Summary: One or two lines are printed, then one or more pages are ejected. This is typically experienced with a UNIX host.

Cause: The job is sending only line feeds (LF) at the end of the line.

Solution 1:

Set the Microplex print server to add a Carriage Return (CR) upon receipt of a LF.

Open a telnet session, use 'root' as the login name press enter at the password prompt. The issue the commands:

set model modelname stty onlcr
save

Where modelname is the name of the associated model. For example, if printing to the destination d1prn1 or prn1 or port 4400, the associated model is m1. Therefore, the command is:

set model m1 stty onlcr
save

For default destination-model mappings, refer to the Microplex user's manual.

Solution 2:

Set the printer to add a Carriage Return (CR) upon receipt of a LF.

- Take the printer off-line.
- Note the Format number shown on the display- for this example we will use the default of 4.
- Press PROGRAM or MENU.
- Press UP arrow- the display shows PRMENU.
- Press ENTER (PROGRAM or MENU)- the Main menu prints.
- Press 2, then ENTER to enter the Format menu.
- Press 1 then ENTER for Modify Format.
- Press the desired format number (4) then ENTER for Format Control.
- Press 1 then ENTER for Print Format.
- Press 4 then ENTER for Printing Mode.
- Press 6 then ENTER to set AUTO CR ON LF.
- Press FIRST (CLEAR)- the Main menu prints.
- Press 1 then ENTER to Exit Printed Menu.
- Press 2 then ENTER to Save.
- Press FIRST then ENTER to exit the LCD menu.

The new format must now be loaded:

- Press FORMAT until any other format number is displayed
(if the desired format is 4, select Format 1).
- Press FORMAT until the desired format (4) is displayed.
- Place the printer on-line.

Repeat this procedure as needed for any other format.
