3800 Series - Adjusting the Tear Off Distance
9 Dec 1997 Ed Palmer

Summary: When using the tear off feature, the paper may not align with the tear off edge as desired. The tear off distance can be easily adjusted.

To Adjust the Auto Tear Off Distance:

  • Place the printer off-line.
  • Tear off any paper exiting the top of the printer at the perforation.
  • Press PARK- the paper unloads from the printer.
  • Press LOAD- the paper loads to under the print head.
  • Ensure the following:
    • The form length is set correctly on the printer.
    • The leading edge of the paper is tron off cleanly at the perforation.
    • No paper is exiting the printer (above the printhead).
Note: Never attempt to adjust the tear off distance with paper exiting the printer. It is easy to move the paper the wrong way, causing paper to exit the tractors when retracting from the tear off position.
  • Press TEAR OFF- the paper moves up.
  • Use the UP and DOWN arrows to adjust the leading edge of the paper until the edge is even with the tear off edge on the top cover.

Note: By default, there is a 15 second timer- if no keys are pressed for 15 seconds, the paper will retract. If this happens, retart this procedure from the beginning.

  • When the paper is at the desired position, press ENTER- the display will show TEAR OFF SAVED.
