3800 Head Gap Motor Test

3800 Head Gap Motor Test

MODELS: 3800 series with auto head gap- 3810SP, 3840EP, 3812, 3842, 3914, 3944

PROBLEM: The head gap does not seem to adjust properly.

CHECK THE RIBBON: Park the paper, remove and inspect the ribbon guide, then re-install the ribbon.

TEST THE GAP ADJUST MOTOR:
- Enter Program mode
- Enter the Head Gap menu
- Select Semi-Auto head gap
- Press the down arro key repatedly until the display shows 0 or Stall.
- Open the top cover
- Make a mark on the right side of the carriage drive rail. Whiteout or a magic marker works well.
- Close the top cover.
- Press the up arrow key repeatedly until the display shows ADJ LIMIT.
- Open the cover and check the mark. It should have moved about 1/4".
- If the mark did not move, the test has failed.

CAUSE: Fault in the Head Gap Adjust Assembly [3D0897G01] , the PHOM board [3B0412G04], or the PHPE [3D0652G05].
