3900 I series - Installation

MODELS: 3910IS, 3940IP

The 3910IS and 3940IP use an integrated IBM interface.  This differs
 from the older models in this series, and may cause some confusion 
in installation.  The older 3900 models were setup using the TEST 
button and ADDRESS switch on the back of the printer.  The I series 
are setup from the control panel. Manuals shipped with the I series 
may not reflect many of these changes.

To install the printer:
- Turn off the printer power.
- Connect the desired adapter cable for twinax or coax connection 
  to the interface 
  box on the back of the printer.
- Do *not* connect the coax or twinax cable from the host to the 
  adapter cable.
- Insure the ADDRESS switch on the interface box is set to 0 (zero).
- Turn on the printer power- the display should show 65 NO INTERFACE 
  for a few seconds, then show 15 COMM CHECK or 27 COMM CHECK.
- Place the printer off-line.
- Press the ENTER (PROGRAM) key- the display shows EXIT.
- Press the DOWN arrow key until the display shows CONTROLLER.
- Press the ENTER key- the display shows MPL.

- Twinax setup:
  o Press the DOWN arrow key until the display shows TX ADDRESS.
  o Press the ENTER key- the display shows the currently set address.
  o Press the DOWN arrow key until the display shows the desired address.
  o Press the ENTER key- the address is now saved.
  o Press the FORMER (ONLINE) key- the display shows TX ADDRESS.
  o Press the UP arrow key until the display shows TX MODEL.
  o Press the ENTER key- the display shows the currently selected 
    IBM model.
  o Press the DOWN arrow key until the display shows the desired model.
  o Press the ENTER key- the display shows CYCLE POWER

- Coax setup:
  o Press the DOWN arrow key until the display shows CX MODEL.
  o Press the ENTER key- the display shows the currently selected IBM model.
  o Press the DOWN arrow key until the display shows the desired model.
  o Press the ENTER key- the display shows CYCLE POWER.

- Turn off the printer power.
- Connect the host coax or twinax cable to the interface adapter cable.
- Turn on the printer power.
- The display will show 65 NO INTERFACE, then 00 READY/ONLINE.

Most of the IBM configuration will be done through the Controller menu.
