TechNote# 3870-005

Printer display is Fault: Adapter Fault

Models: 3972,3974

Summary:

After making a change in the printer's Net menus, the printer's power must be cycled to
cause the Network Adapter has to be updated with the changes.

If a Network Adapter has just been installed on the printer, or one has been installed and the printer
working OK then a change was made in the printer's Net menus, on power up
(after several minutes) the printer displays "Fault: Adapter Fault".

Resolution:

This problem occurs because the printer has to establish communications with the Coax/Twinax
controller on power up. If the printer must also communicate Net menu values to the
Network Adapter, this prevents the printer from establishing communications with the Coax/Twinax controller.

On a new Newtwork Adapter install, or after making changes in the printer's Net menus,
on power up wait for the LEDs on the Network Adapter to start flashing then cycle power.
On the second power up, the printer will establish communications with the Coax/Twinax controller.
