"SLO" Error On A 4410 / 4440
10-15-91 Mike Auen
01-10-97 Ed Palmer

Models: 4410 / 4440

Summary:
The "SLO" error message in the display indicates that the printer is in a thermal
throttle back mode. This status usually occurs during heavy graphics printing to
allow the print actuators to cool down to a nominal operating temperature as a
precaution against failure. If the printer displays this error message when cold or
during normal text printing, troubleshooting will be required.

Resolution:

Possible causes of this problem include:

Overheating cause by a defective cooling fan.
- Check the fan under the print heads and replace as needed.

Defective print module.
- One at a time, disconnect each print actuator cable from the print modules.
Power up the printer and clear any AC errors that may occur. If the SLO
error goes away, the print module is at fault.

Defective print actuator driver board.
- Disconnect all the print actuator cables from the driver board(s). If the
error remains, the driver board or the SMMC board may be at fault.

Worn insulation on the ribbon cable from the print actuators to the print actuator
driver board.
- Inspect the cables and replace as needed.

Defective SMIH or SMIS board.
- Disconnect the driver cable from P2 on the SMMB motherboard. Power up the printer.
If the problem persists, replace the board.

Insufficient power to print.
- Check the 42 volts from the power supply.
