4410 / 4440  Series

4400 Paper Motion Problems
3-13-95 Ed Palmer

Models: 4410, 4440

Summary:
PROBLEM 1: The paper moves up and down when each line is printed, creating
a ''jitter' effect.

PROBLEM 2: Paper REVERSES during form feed or print operations.

Resolution:

SOLUTION 1:
- ANSI emulation
The only true fix here is to get a CR LF sequence into the datastream.
Ignoring CR by setting Printer Control Strap A29 to 1 will get rid of the
jitter effect, but will probably cause incorect printing. Changing to ProPrinter
or Printronix emulations (if possible) will also fix this problem.

- ProPrinter emulation
Set B32(64)=0 to turn off automatic CR with LF, VT, and ESC J. Insure you reselect
the ProPrinter emulation by pressing 0-9-3 after setting straps.

- Printronix emulation
Set strap A3=0 so that a CR invokes edit mode.

NOTE: See Printer Control Straps  Procedure to make above changes.

SOLUTION 2:
- This is an indication that NV RAM has gotten corrupted.
  ..Print a Status Report;
  ..Re-initialize the printer;
  ..and re-set the options.
