Summary:
4500 Series Troubleshooting

Resolution:
The 4500 is a standard 4410 / 4440 printer with an IBM coax or twinax interface. The interface consists of the cable assembly, the PSCLA board, and the PSCUA board (the control panel).

The IBM interface intercepts all errors generated by the print engine, and displays them on the LCD panel. The interface may not display print engine errors in a meaningful manner.

PERM ERROR XXX: The XXX is a three digit number that usually corresponds to an error code listed in the 4410 / 4440 service manual. In some instances, the error code may be rotated to the right by one digit, i.e., a display of 042 may actually correspond to a 420 error.

INTERLOCK ERROR idicates than an error occured that the interface cannot pass through to the display.

To troubleshoot these type of problems, a standard 4400 control panel [44C506059-G05] must be installed. The cable on PSCLA P3 must be removed and connected to the standard control panel. The cable is rather short, and is not keyed. If the panel does not come up on power-up, reverse the connector. The standard panel will also allow reinitializing the printer when the test menu cannot be entered.
