4000 Series - Print Creeping

Models: 44XX, 45XX, 48XX, 49XX

Summary:
 PROBLEM: Text appears to creep up the page slightly, increasing with successive pages.

Resolution:
 CAUSE 1: Heavy paper, causing incomplete paper feeding.

SOLUTION 1: For heavier media, it may be necessary to reduce the vertical slew rate (how fast the printer feeds paper). A reduced slew will allow the paper feed motor to apply more torque to the paper handling mechanism.

-4410, 4440: Set printer control strap B9 to 1. The printer must have firmware 44A511692 or higher.

-4510, 4520, 4530, 4540: Enter Service Mode by holding the TEST key while turning on the printer power, then set printer control strap B9 to 1

-4470, 4490, 4570, 4590: Enter the Program menu, then Engine Options- set Slew Rate to Reduced. The printer must have firmware 44A514404 or higher.

-4800/4900 series: Enter the Program menu, then Engine Options- set Slew Rate to Reduced.

CAUSE 2: A problem in the paper handling mechanism.

Check and replace the following as needed:

- Paper feed motor
- Motor driver board (SMMC or SMHI)
- Tractor assemblies
- Tractor timing belt
- Paper tensioning fingers
- Any interference in the throat of the printer
