Models: 4470XT / 4490XT; 4570XT / 4590XT
Summary: The printer displays FAULT: RIBBON JAM every 13 minutes of print time.
Cause: The use of non GENICOM ribbons, or a fault in the ribbon weld sensing circuit.
Resolution:
Check the ribbon: Non GENICOM ribbons, and restuffed ribbons do not have the weld sensor hole that the printer will look for. GENICOM ribbons with weld sensor hole, part number 44A509160-G02 (125 million characters), 44A509160-G02 (50 million characters), and 44A509160-G04 (IR-OCR) should be used. If the hole is not present in the ribbon, the printer will print over the weld, with a resultant loss of print quality. The printer detects ribbon jams by sensing the hole every 12-13 minutes of print time. If the hole is not detected within 13 minutes of previous detection, the printer reports a ribbon jam.
Sensor Control: Ribbon jam detection may be disabled by setting printer control strap B38 to IN.
Caution: If the sensor is bad, the printer will print over the weld sensor hole, and can cause the ribbon to tear and jam.
