48X2 /49X2 No Communication
08-10-95 Rich Van Breemen

Models: 48X2 / 49X2

Summary:
SYMPTOM:  After initial power up or after the printer has been initialized the printer does not communicate with the host.

CAUSE: After initialization or on it's initial power up, the printer comes up in "LOCAL" mode. At this point the printer does not know the QMS SmartGraphics board is installed. The QMS SmartGraphics board downloads a command sequence to the TTLB via the printer's Parallel port when first put "OnLine". If the interface settings are changed before the printer communicates with the QMS SmartGraphics board, the board will not work with the host or printer.

Resolution:

ACTION:	Whenever you reinitialize a 48X2 or 49X2 printer, or at the initial
power on, first put the printer "OnLine", wait for 5 seconds, and then back
to local before you make any configuration changes. After you have
completed the above step, ensure that the QMS SmartGraphics board is
communicating with the TTLB. This can be done by ensuring that the
"SmartGraphics" option appears in the program menu. If this condition
exists, the QMS SmartGraphics board has properly configured the TTLB
in the printer. In normal operation, the QMS SmartGraphics board
handles all of the communications with the host device.

Communications options can be configured through Printer Control
straps "D".
