48X2 / 49X2 Losing Top Of Form
12-21-95 R. Van Breemen

Models: 48X2 / 49X2

Summary:
Printer loosing paper registration or having numerous paper jams, especially with heavy forms.

CAUSE: Possible tractor misalignment caused by the tractor pulleys. The toothed edge of some pulleys were molded with a concave bottom on each tooth, instead of flat. This can cause the belt to fray and bind, thus skipping a tooth and causing improperly aligned top and bottom tractors.

Resolution:

Replace both pulleys and the timing belt with Upgrade Kit
4A1358G01, which includes the following:

- Pulley 4C0461G06	QTY 2
- Timing Belt	44A515051-001 QTY 1
- Push Nut	44A515031-001 QTY 2
(These will need to be replaced because the FE will have to break the old
ones to replace the pulleys.)

NOTE: Do not lubricate the new pulleys. They are Teflon impregnated.
