Upgrading the Net32 and Net16 Nework Interfaces with EZWebCon
28 Jan 2003 Ed Palmer

Summary: The Net16 (mL170) and Net32 (mL21, mL28, mL320, mL401, LN21, LN28, LNM40) network interface card uses flash memory and can be upgraded with EZWebCon.

The Net16 and Net32 runtime code is different. Do not attempt to flash Net32 code into the Net16 or vice versa.

There are three versions of the Net32. The Net 32 EA option card is 10/100BaseT, the Net32 CX option card is 10/100BaseT and 10Base2. The Net32i (integrated onto the mL450, LN45, mL280+ and LN28+ controllers) is 10/100BaseT. All versions use the same flash code.

Read this document entirely before beginning the upgrade.

This upgrade may not work across multiple network segments.

Procedure:

If EZWebCon does not connect to the Net16/32, ping the NIC- if this fails:

Once the upgrade begins, do not interrupt the process by shutting down EZWebCon or turning off the printer. Doing so will corrupt the operating code and render the NIC inoperative (the network settings will no longer show in the printer menu).

If the upgrade fails at this point, the progress bar will hang at 0% and the printer will eventually print a error page.

The protocols used in the upgrade were not able to be routed between the PC and the printer.
