Creating the Printer Description

CRTOUTQ critical entries are:
Number of pages *NONE
Order of files on queue *FIFO
Remote system *INTNETADR
Remote printer queue See the "Printer and Print Server" table below
Writers to autostart 1
Connection type *IP
Destination type *OTHER
Host Print Transform *YES
Manufacturer type and model If you are not using a custom object, see the "Printer Model" table below. If you are using a Workstation Customizing Object, enter *WSCST here
Workstation Customizing Object If you entered *WSCST for the Manufacturer type and model, enter the name of the custom object. For example the Genicom 3800 ANSI object is gen3840
Workstation Customizing Object Library If you entered the name of a custom object above, enter the library where it resides
Internet address Enter the device's IP address
Destination options you may need to select an option

Note 2: Where xxxxxx are the last six digits of the MAC address.

The printer emulation (set from the printer panel) must match the set MFRTYPMDL.

Generic Driver

If the user desires to completely control the job setup from the printer control panel, a generic object can be used. Set MFRTYPMDL to *WSCSTCONT80 for narrow carriage printers, or to *WSCSTCONT132 for wide carriage printers and set the Customizing Object to QWPDEFAULT in library QSYS.

CRTDEVPRT

CRTDEVPRT was implemented with OS/400 V3R7 and adds page range support.. CRTDEVPRT can be used only with PCL/PJL (laser) printers. Attempting to attach a GENICOM matrix printer with CRTDEVPRT will cause one of the following problems:

- PJL command sequences such as %12345X @PJL ENTER LANGUAGE= PCL print at the top of each page.

- The Writer generates error MSGCPD337F.

Page Range

For page range support, refer to IBM Technical Document 12594243 .

Font Issues when MFRTYPMDL is set to IBM42023 or IBM42081:

15 CPI

Support for 15 CPI is only available when using an Epson emulation. The 15 CPI font tag must be added to the Epson WSCST- refer to IBM Technical Document 22014723.

Printer Feeds Paper and Does Not Print

The printer emulation does not match the set MFRTYPML. Change the printer emulation form the printer control panel.
