Description:

non-clearable "Testing" or "Ribbon blocked" LCD message

Date:

08-05-2004

Issue / Symptom:
A non-clearable power up LCD message of "Testing" (LA500 / LA700plus) or "Ribbon Blocked" (3850) generally indicates a problem associated with the ribbon drive system or the ribbon motor.

Solution/Action:
  1. Remove the ribbon cartridge and recycle the printer's power. If the error message goes away, then the ribbon cartridge is defective.
  2. Assure that there is no debris blocking the ribbon motor sensor (located at the bottom of the ribbon drive motor).
  3. There could be a loose connector, a damaged wire harness, a defective ribbon drive motor, or a defective main logic board. Diagnosing and repairing these problems requires the services of a qualified repair technician.
