Support for P02 and P03 Flash SIMMs

The Flash SIMM used as the Code SIMM has been upgraded from a version P01 to versions P02 and P03. For details, refer to TechNote IP-18. All printers with P02 and P03 Code SIMMs will ship with supporting code. Any printer with a P01 Flash SIMM and older code must be incrementally upgraded because of changes in the file system format.

For example, if a mL401 has product version 3.09, it has a P01 Code SIMM. The printer must be upgraded to version 3.30 before upgrading to 3.40. Attempting to upgrade directly from 3.09 to 3.40 is not possible- the printer will start printing garbage.

Format 3 was introduced with version 3.30 for the mL320, mL401 and LNM40 and with version 1.30 for the mL210, mL280, LN21 and LN28. Versions 1.30 and 3.30 are referred to as the Intermediate Upgrade versions.

If a User SIMM is installed in a printer with product version prior to Format 3, it will have to be re-formatted to be compatible- refer to TechNote IP-18.

Printers with twinax and coax SCS should be upgraded to the the Intermediate Upgrade versions, then to the latest twinax or coax version. For example, upgrade a printer with 72.03 to 3.30, then to 72.41.

Printers with twinax and coax IPDS will require multiple upgrades. Refer to TechNote IP-01D.

Before Upgrading

After upgrading the printer code, menu settings may return to the default. Before upgrading, print the Summary Page to obtain the present printer configuration:

To determine the printer firmware revision:

After Upgrading

After upgrading, the printer may show SERVICE ERROR 01, SERVICE ERROR 02, SERVICE ERROR 03, or may hang on power up- this indicates that the OID has been lost. To restore the OID:
