Toner Waste Bottle Replacement

Summary: The Toner Waste Bottle must be replaced when a bottle of Toner is added. Failing to replace the Waste Bottle can cause print quality problems and can damage the printer.

Procedure: To replace the Waste Bottle, refer to GEK-89470, microLaser 400 Operations, page 36.

Details: Waste toner is transported from the drum, through a Waste Toner Transport Assembly, into the Waste Toner Bottle. If the Waste Bottle becomes full and is not replaced, the following can happen:

• Toner will dump from the bottle into the printer. This can cause print quality issues.
• Toner will back up through the Transport. If toner becomes impacted, the Transport can be damaged.
• If toner is backed up all the way to the drum, the toner will damage the drum. Damage is usually most evident on the end of the drum towards the front of the printer. Drum damage will cause print quality issues, usually a black line down one edge of the page.
• Excess toner on the transfer charger wire can short out the high voltage, causing a ENGINE ERROR 111 or can arc, inducing noise into the data bus that causes the hard drive to disconnect (the hard drive icon will be active, but the printer will not print).

Recovery: If the Waste Toner Bottle has dumped into the printer:

• Remove and dispose the full bottle.
• Remove the drum and transfer charger.
• Thoroughly clean the printer with dry wipes and/or a toner vacuum.
• Ensure the Erase Lamp Assembly is cleaned. Refer to TechNote mL400-02.
• Re-install the drum and transfer charger.
• Install a new Waste Bottle.
