Summary: A toner vacuum is an essential tool for cleaning toner and developer in a page (laser) printer. Standard vacuums are not recommended for cleaning toner and developer. Specialized toner vacuums are available to do the job.
Details: Toner consists of very fine particles than will blow through the bag on a standard vacuum. Toner is electrically conductive- if it enters the vacuum motor, it may damage the vacuum. A toner vacuum has a particulate filter designed to trap toner. A vacuum with .5 micron retention or smaller is recommended.
Toner is designed to be electrically charged. Moving toner through the plastic tubing of a vacuum can create an undesirable static charge. A toner vacuum is specially grounded to dissipate any static buildup. An ESD rated toner vacuum is recommended.
Accessories should include a crevice tool and a long nozzle.
Toner vacuums are available through many supply outlets.
When cleaning toner from clothing, a nonionic detergent is recommended. Ionic (cationic or anionic) detergents may set the toner into the fabric.
