Microsoft Word and Matrix Printer Fonts

Summary: Under Word, a dot matrix printer is selected. A printer resident font is selected. The following problems may be seen:

Cause: Word uses a printer-independent layout scheme and does not rely on printer information (metrics) to lay out the document. As a result, when printer fonts are selected, Word sends spacing commands between each character that are calculated incorrectly.

Solutions:

Set Word to use printer metrics:

This must be selected for each document, but is saved with the document.

or

Change the printer graphics resolution:
